Three New Albany Middle School seventh grade students participated in the Power of the Pen State Tournament held at The College of Wooster, May 25.
Chelsea Marra, Samantha Kappes and Jessica von Zastrow earned participation in this tournament through demonstrations of their excellent writing at the district and regional levels. By earning at spot at state level competition, these students are among the top 350 seventh grade writers in the state of Ohio.
The girls competed in three 35-minute writing rounds for a place in the “Power Round.” Fifty-four students advanced to the “Power Round.” Jessica von Zastrow made it to the “Power Round,” for New Albany, making her one of the top 54 writers in the state for seventh grade.
Guest author and keynote speaker, Jack Gantos, Newberry medalist in 2012 and the author of 45 books for children and young adults, entertained writers, parents and teachers with his humorous approach to writing.
