Flags Flown In Afghanistan Presented to New Albany Elementary School
As we enter into the month of November, we honor and celebrate the dedication of all who have served in the United States Armed Forces with Veterans Day – November 11th. In honoring those who have and are serving, we are moved and inspired by the beautifully framed American Flag displays in the 2-5 building and Annex office areas.
These flags were flown in Afghanistan and were presented to New Albany Elementary School during the 2011-2012 school year. SGT Greg Ashdown and SGT Chris Butsky, Bravo Company, 237th BSB, who were stationed at Camp Deh Dadi II, became pen pals with third grade classes as an extension of a classroom guidance lesson on gratitude. The other flag was presented to New Albany Elementary school by LTC John Shaw. LTC Shaw, 643rd Regional Support Group, stationed in Kandahar, presented the flag to our school at a flag raising ceremony on September 2011. LTC Shaw is the proud father of four children who attend New Albany Schools.
An inscription on the certificates’ reads, “May it serve as a reminder of America’s commitment to the Defense of Freedom and Liberty.” Our children are able to grow into becoming high achieving, ethical, self-directed, and intellectually curious citizens of the world due the opportunities that American freedom and liberty offers.
