In order to accommodate families with last-minute summer plans, the Summer Academy has extended its registration deadline to Friday, June 1. Many classes are filling quickly. Choose from enrichment, credit, credit-recovery and IMPACT courses – more than 40 classes are available to students of all ages.

Introduction to Mandarin Chinese
This course will provide an introduction to the Mandarin Chinese language, culture and customs. Instruction will be provided by individuals from the Ohio State University Chinese language program and student experiences will include learning about the Mandarin Chinese language in both written and spoken form with an orientation to Chinese culture and customs.
Grade Level: Rising Grades 5-9

What’s your story? Here’s your chance to create your own story and have it published into a professionally bound book. You pick the theme (fantasy, biography, etc.) and add your own illustrations. Students will go through the writing process beginning with prewriting, moving on to drafting, revising, proofreading, and publishing. Students are encouraged to sign up with friends and even produce a story through collaboration (together) with instructor and parent approval. Students will work at their own level and pace within the time frame of the class and may take time at home if necessary. The finished books will instill a great sense of pride and accomplishment, as well as increase enthusiasm for reading and writing. Bring your imagination and a snack!

The Inquiry Kids Show
How would you like to be part of our very own New Albany Elementary School TV show for the next school year? In this exciting summer program we will create, write and film “how to” segments, fun math lessons and history lessons about Ohio. We will also create fun literature activities with puppets, and much more in this “Bill Nye” style TV show! This TV show will be shown exclusively in the 2-5 classrooms in the next school year. Each episode will be approximately 10 minutes long. If you love to act and perform in front of a camera, then this is the program for you! Please pack your own lunch and snacks. Due to the popularity of this class, enrollment is limited to students who have not participated in Inquiry Kids last year.
