The Board of Education of the New Albany-Plain Local School District has selected Ms. Rebecca Jenkins as the new District Treasurer. Jenkins will begin working on some transition issues with Interim Treasurer Peg Betts, who has led the district since the summer of 2012. Jenkins begins full time on February 4, 2013.
“I am pleased to welcome Ms. Jenkins to the New Albany Schools Community and am confident that she will be a great addition to this team as we gear up for some major initiatives in the near future,” said Board President Laura Kohler. “Her qualifications and years of experience will be a great asset to us as we work to build the future.”
Jenkins brings to the district over 24 years of experience working in education, having served most recently as the District Treasurer at Olentangy Local Schools. During her career she has served as Treasurer for three additional school districts, serves as a member of the Ohio Association of School Business Officials (OASBO) School Finance, Legislative and Annual Workshop Committees from 2005 to present and was named Ohio School Treasurer of the Year by the Foundation for School Business Management in 2010.
Jenkins will continue the work begun by Interim Treasurer Betts by facilitating the day to day operations of the district to continue to inspire trust and confidence with stakeholders. Additional upcoming initiatives will include the financing for the construction of the new building based on the successful passage of Issue 50.
“I appreciate the thoughtful and deliberative process that was undertaken by the Board and the Educational Service Center (ESC) of central Ohio to identify and secure the necessary leadership to fill the vital role of district treasurer,” said Superintendent Domine. “Ms. Jenkins will be an effective partner in our work to continue moving the district forward, while demonstrating to the public our commitment to transparency, cost savings and accountability.”
The search for a full time treasurer began in the early fall of 2012, coordinated by the Educational Service Center (ESC) of central Ohio. While the ESC search process included a formal open application period, an additional focus was on the effort to identify the most qualified pool of candidates for consideration.Jenkins holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration, major in Accounting from Wheeling Jesuit College, Wheeling, West Virginia and an Associate of Science Degree, major in Accounting from Belmont Technical College in St. Clairsville, Ohio. She is certified as a Licensed Ohio Public School Treasurer, Licensed Ohio Public School Business Manager and by the OASBO Leadership Academy.
