On Wednesday, May 16, the NAMS Jazz Band, under the direction of Nathan McGee, shared its latest Jazz musical works for several audiences. Over a thousand elementary students from the 2-5 Building were in attendance for two performances at the McCoy Center for the Arts.
“The Middle School Jazz Band was such a pleasure to hear!” stated LeNora Angles, 2-5 Music and fifth grade choir teacher stated. “What amazing musicians at such a young age. It is always exciting to see the students come back and perform for the student body. I love to see their improvements from year to year!”
The Jazz Band traveled off campus to entertain the residents at a local assisted living residence as well.
Of the four performances, many students were most honored to play for their current teachers at the NAMS End of the Year Staff Breakfast.
“I thought the students were very professional, poised, and talented,” commented Tina Wyant, MS Teacher. “Together, they produced a robust, complimentary sound. I enjoyed the concert immensely.”
Mr. McGee began the Jazz Band Spring Tour seven years ago with the intent of showcasing the students’ musical talents and dedication to the band program. The Jazz Band will conclude their 2011-2012 concert season with a performance at Picasso’s Palette, on Thursday, May 24, at 5:00 pm, in the MS cafe.
