Hand in Hand with Haiti
In Our Schools

In anticipation of the visit by world renowned global health humanitarian Dr. Paul Farmer; students faculty, parents and community members have been planning a variety of activities related to Dr. Farmer’s work and commitment to the people of Haiti.

Dr. Paul Farmer’s visit to New Albany is made possible through the generosity of New Albany Community Foundation donors, Greif, Inc. and KeyBank.  His appearance is in conjunction with the 10th anniversary of A Remarkable Evening, the signature fundraiser for the foundation on November 29 that features keynote speaker, President Bill Clinton.   A Remarkable Evening is underwritten entirely by the Wexner family so that all proceeds benefit the foundation and its grant making activities.

ASK ME ABOUT MY BACKPACK – Activities for all grade levels

This activity launched on October 23 and continues until the Dr. Farmer visit on Nov. 29 to create awareness of this remarkable resource that is being used by Haitians to transport and ensure safe, clean water.  Last week, teachers in the middle school and high school carried the packs for the day to get students talking about the resource and how this pack is changing the lives of people in Haiti.

Today, Tuesday, Oct. 30, students in the middle school had the opportunity to carry 20 packs.  The demand quickly outgrew the number of packs available, but not to worry, the pack carrying activity will continue.  High School students have the opportunity to carry a pack beginning Wednesday, Oct. 31.

Students are notified through announcements and word of mouth as to the availability of the packs.  Parents may also e-mail, parent volunteer Kris Moss at mosskris@gmail.com if your student is interested in carrying a pack for the day. Please include students name and grade.
