Bhagee Ganesan spells P-H-A-R-M-A-C-E-U-T-I-C-A-L to win district Spelling Bee

New Albany Middle School seventh grade student Bhagee Ganesan won the district Spelling Bee on Monday, January 23.  She competed against nine other New Albany-Plain Local Schools students, two each from grades four to eight:

Spelling Bee Finalists

Fourth Grade:

  • Renna Semertsidis
  • Joseph Steel

Fifth Grade:

  • Hannah Kappes
  • Sidharth Suravarapu

Sixth Grade:

  • Anjali Gopalakrishnan
  • Rohith Paidikondala

Seventh Grade:

  • Bhagee Ganesan
  • Brandon Damante

Eighth Grade:

  • Mehek Sheikh
  • Andrew Altschuld

The two final spellers were Bhagee and Rohith.  Rohith got fractured by “conchoidal” and Bhagee won that round by correctly spelling “silhouette.”  She sealed her victory by spelling “pharmaceutical” in the final round.

Next, registered district champions (Bhagee) must take an online test administered by Ohio University.  The top 70 spellers will be invited to the Regional Bee, held at Ohio University.
